ICMT
Grand Opening and Symposium
November 8 & 9, 2002
Houston, TX, USA

Message from the Chairman of the ICMT Executive Committee
On behalf of the ICMT Executive Committee and staff, I would like to welcome you to the grand opening and symposium of the ICMT (International Center for Medical Technologies). This opening highlights years of work in the international scientific community. We are delighted that many of our presenters are pioneers in the artificial organ sector and those that use the current technology on an everyday basis while caring for their patients.
Realizing the historical value, I began collecting the displayed archives in 1977 from investigators and research facilities from around the world. Then in 1981, we started a museum in Cleveland, Ohio. Later, the museum collection was moved to Houston, Texas in March 2000 and many other items have been added to the original collection. Then with the help of Dr. Akira Nishikawa the museum found a home in the Memorial Hermann Hospital. The section in which the ICMT displays are exhibited was the original entrance of Hermann Hospital, which was the first hospital, built in the Texas Medical Center.
To create a memorial experience, we decided to host the “ICMT Symposium on Artificial Organs: Past, Present, and Future in 2002” commemorating the official opening of ICMT. Dr. George Noon will chair this event. The staff and I contacted some of the pioneer researchers in the field of circulatory assist, blood purification, and blood oxygenation. To balance out the picture, other speakers and moderators who are well known in their perspective fields with today’s technology have kindly accepted an offer to participate in this symposium. We are planning poster sessions and invite you to submit an abstract for these sessions.
The Executive Committee members and I hope that this will be a wonderful occasion and truly hope that you will find this experience enlightening.
